How do I sound?

I am considering vocal lessons but first want to know if I have any singing potential. I've recorded myself singing "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera. Please let me know your honest opinion. Thank you!

You have good tone. My recommendations

1. watch where you take your notes. You seem to almost anticipate the next note and go after it before you've finished your word. Keep a note steady and don't fluctuate or slide.

2. Your high notes are restrained in some places. Simple fix, usually, lower your chin (not your jaw) and relax.

3. Your accent changes during the song somewhat... stop it.

4. You are flat on some of your climax notes: eg the final note on the recording. There's a fairly simple fix for this also... first, listen to yourself more closely for the particular parts, second, think high.

I think you have great potential as a singer... that doesn't mean you'll be a famous opera singer or go further than your local community, but sometimes that's worth it. I highly suggest a skilled teacher. For a good teacher, I recommend going to the local colleges and getting the names of the private teachers they use for their students.

Good luck!

wow you have some talent! Don't be afraid to belt out the high notes though. Good luck with your singing lessons!
ur heeelllllllllllaaaaaa good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you sound like a door with squeaky hinges
You sound great!

You should still go for vocal lessons though. They help work out the problem areas in your singing and make you sound like a pro.

You definitely know how to carry a tune, though. ;)
i'm not a fan of opera, but you did pretty good. i think a voice coach would be helpful. go for it!!
Your singing abilities are great. There are potential, I think with more practice with a vocal coach you will sing every note to perfection.
Wow, is that really you? It sound a lot like the original, but it's great! Very exact. You definitely have talent if you can sing that well already, so pursue it! :)

its not bad but really not my type.

i think its very old fashioned--no offense.
You sound good to me.... :)
well.. u sing better then me.. lol.. ha.. i can sing to.. like u.. but not as good... i think u should take the vocal lessons
Your voice is good but unpolished, and voice lessons would definately do a lot for you. I say go for it.
First of all, I commend you for being brave enough to post yourself singing online.

You weren't terrible, but you need a lot of work. Please don't be offended by anything that I say; I'm just trying to help.

You were very, very pitchy, but that is usually a problem that can be fixed by taking lessons with a good instructor. Also, you weren't quite on with the beat of the music at some parts, especially toward the end. Again, this comes with experience and with listening very, very closely...it wasn't terrible, though.

Another thing I noticed is that you were a bit afraid of the high notes, which is very common in beginning singers. All I can say is, don't be shy...get a good supporting breath from your diaphragm, open your mouth, and let it out. If it doesn't feel very natural and comfortable, then you are either doing it wrong or you are not naturally a soprano. These are all things that a teacher would help you with.

You do have potential. I highly recommend getting a good teacher, and seeing how you like it. If it's something you enjoy, as it seems you do, then just go for it, and see where it takes you. Like one of the previous posters said, you most likely will never become famous or well known outside your community, but if you enjoy singing, just do it to have fun!

Singing is a lot of fun, especially singing opera! I wish you all the luck in your studies. :D
you are seriously very good.

there were a few minor problems, all of which could be easily fixed with singing lessons.

you've got a great tone and quality to your voice, though.

and that's a good music style for your voice.
