I am 15 years old and really want to redecorate my bedroom. I have a pretty big bedroom but it doesnt get much light. I am on a very limited budget but I am willing to do a lot off making stuff. I need a room that I can sleep in, work in, chill out in, dress in and read in. I really like the idea of having divided areas. My walls are a plain cream but I can't do any painting coz we don't own the house. Here are some themes that I like:
Old Romantic
Exotic India
Imperial Asia
Eclectic Enthic
Moroccan
Bohemian
Arabian Night
Greek/Roman Mythology
Celestial
Georgian
Victorian
Egyptian
Gothic
Medieval/Camelot
Old Hollywood Glamour
Romantic French/ Moulin Rouge
Phantom of the Opera
Oriental
I have a lot of stuff and like it that way. I want my room to feel cosy and unique.
Any ideas for any of these themes would be really appreciated, or even theme ideas that you think I would like.

Room dividers! Try going to a thrift store or a second hand store and look for old room dividers and spruce those things up! You can even look for old book shelves (the kind with no backs are even better) that way you can decorate with different things you have around your room or use it for storage!
I like the old romantic idea.
I would get more light to be able to read and maybe a full length mirror. You can make a lamp and mirror look more "olden days" by painting it gold or a bronze color. Same with the lamp. You can buy beads from a craft store (antique colors like autumn-y colors) and sew them to the bottom of the lamp shade. Then paint the base with a corresponding color.
Again, go to the craft store and look for random stuff thats on sale. You can find picture frames for $1. Paint them and print rustic pictures from your computer or print black and white pictures of your friends and put them in there and hang them up!

An easy solution to not being able to paint is to use curtains, sheets or old material tacked on the walls with push pins.
I think using dividers is a fantastic way to close in the space. If you go for the old style victorian or even French you could use them to create a dressing area just like back in the day.
Use fabric or netting around the bed area so it almost looks like a canopy. Depending on what type of lighting fixture you have in your room you could even use the netting or fabric tied to the fixture and stretch it to the corners of the room. (of course if you have a ceiling fan....I wouldn't recommend donig that! )
Thrift stores are a good place to start. Sometimes you will even be able to find scrap material to use to make or cover pillows. Another great store to find bolts of material is Old Tyme Pottery. Or you could hit fabric stores and ask to see their discontinuted material. Of course fabric stores are more expensive....Walmart usually has material fairly priced. You could even by some cheap muslin...dye it or even stretch it and paint it. If you choose to paint it you will have to treat the muslin first....using a corn startch and water mix in a spray bottle. Tack the canvas down and stretch it out. Spray the mix and then you can use acrylic or latex paint...water it down don't just slap it on there. (If you do then the paint will be too heavy and it will eventually crack or the material will get to stiff and cause heavy creases that you won't be able to smooth out. Another great way to add a splash of color is by painting contact paper. Buy plain white...paint it any color you want...you could do shapes or even a border to go around your room. Test an area on the wall...somewhere out of site to make sure it doesn't pull off the existing paint. Depending on what type of paint is already on the wall might knock that option out. If it is just flat latex I wouldn't recommend using contact paper.
So ultimately hit the thrift stores, goodwill, yard sales and dollar stores.
Good luck with your room and thanks for the add!
Romantic French would be very attractive.
